The Juliet Program is a home grounded in structure and compassion. Adults find stability, dignity, and the support they need to thrive. Each individual has their own independent unit within the house, offering privacy and a space to call their own. The focus here is on fostering independence and autonomy, with each client working toward personal goals that reflect their unique strengths and aspirations.
Current Bed Availability: 1 (May be structured as an unlicensed youth placement. See Leonor Home for details related to Barrantes' unlicensed programming.)
Welcome to the Juliet Program! Upon placement, each client receives a thorough introduction to the program, including a tour and orientation to the space. Throughout this tour, our team goes over important policies and procedures, including client rights and responsibilities. Within the first 30 days, our management team works closely with the client to set personalized goals and develop a comprehensive Individualized Support Plan (ISP), covering areas of concern and areas in which the individual wants to grow.
Clients are actively involved in creating their ISPs, ensuring their preferences, concerns, and wishes are heard when setting their goals and determining how they will be achieved. This approach has been proven to increase satisfaction with overall support, as the strategies implemented were guided by the individual themself.
To support ongoing progress, we schedule regular review meetings to assess the program's effectiveness. Our Service & Program Manager meets with each client monthly, and regular case conferences and conducted to discuss goal progression and overall client satisfaction. Our support plans evolve along with the needs and wishes of each client, allowing for a collaborative and client-centered environment.
Each client residing at the Juliet Program receives clinical behaviour support and behaviour plan oversight from our Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA). Depending on the behaviour of the client, they may have an Antecedent Strategy Plan, which provides staff with proactive strategies to prevent behaviour from occurring, or in cases of more serious behaviour, our RBA will implement a Behaviour Support Plan (BSP), which integrates both proactive and consequence strategies to reduce behaviour frequency and intensity.
With many of our clients coming from a traumatic past, our RBA takes careful consideration of their past experiences and unique needs to ensure a trauma-informed lens is applied in all aspects of the plan. Our RBA takes time to explain each part of the plan, ensuring a full understanding and providing opportunity to ask questions and seek clarity. All behaviour plans are structured to implement the least intrusive measures to reduce behaviour instances. The primary goal of our behaviour support is to reduce behaviour frequency and intensity while avoiding re-traumatization.
We strongly encourage and advocate for each client to be involved in educational activities and skill building during their stay with Barrantes.
While the Juliet Program is home to adult clients, we believe that learning is a lifelong endeavour. Educational opportunities are embedded into each adult client's programming, including education related to appropriate decision-making, healthy habits, budgeting and money management, and other critical life skills.
Educational information is presented in a developmental- and age-appropriate manner, thus enhancing engagement and overall outcomes.
Adult clients with access to Passport, ODSP, or other funding sources are afforded the opportunity to have Barrantes management support their fund management. This allows for our team to effectively budget for meaningful community-based recreational activities and other opportunities for community integration.
Barrantes is closely connected with local community agencies to offer volunteer opportunities to our clients, providing them with vocational experience and the opportunity to apply their learned skills in a real-world setting.
The health and well being of the youth in our homes is of utmost importance. All clients have unrestricted access to medical, dental and vision care with our partnered, local care providers. All routine health assessments are scheduled promptly, with any pertinent findings being communicated and addressed in a timely manner. Medication administration is keenly monitored, with quick attention being brought to any adverse effects or errors.
At the Juliet Program, life skill development and therapeutic engagement are at the forefront of each daily schedule and activity. We strive to create meaningful opportunities to engage in therapeutic conversation, allowing for clients to work through their frustrations or concerns, develop coping skills, and work on emotional regulation. Each activity is structured to enhance a core life skill, allowing clients to work towards independence.
Our dedicated team uses a therapeutic approach to guide and support clients, helping them develop confidence, resilience, and the life skills needed to thrive both within the program and beyond.
All staff members possess at least a college diploma or university degree in relevant social service fields. They hold a valid Police Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) and/or Police Broad Record Check (BRC) as well as WSIB-approved First Aid/CPR Training.
